The donation was made in recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and OraSure’s sponsorship of the Hello Beautiful Presents Grammy Award Winning artist Alicia Keys Intimate Concert Event in February.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. that have HIV and approximately 240,000 of them are unaware of their status. Additionally, despite African Americans representing only 14 percent of the U.S. population, 44 percent of all new HIV infections occur within the African American population.
Committed to helping people learn their HIV status, OraSure launched its OraQuick In-Home HIV Test in October 2012 in 30,000 retail stores nationwide and online at OraQuick.com. The test serves as an important tool to help individuals find out their status and if positive, get linked to care.
