Affordable housing has always been an issue in Harlem, here are shacks on Fifth Avenue and 101st Street in Central Harlem on the East Harlem Central Harlem border in 1894.

This photograph was taken long before the development of the area from farm land to residential property by Robert Moses in 1929.

By 1894, Central Park had already been carved into the landscape of  New York City in 1857.
