2017 Community Board Appointments Announced For Harlem, Gale Brewer

June 3, 2017

In Gales Brewer’s June Newsletter 2017 she writers:

I’m delighted to announce that 328 people have been appointed to Manhattan’s 12 Community Boards for two year terms beginning June 1, 2017. The Class of 2017 includes 87 new members—a quarter of the total— the result of a record-high applicant pool of 1,030 applicants, a 31 percent spike from last year. The full list is available online at bit.ly/ManhattanCB.

The increase in applicants made the choices tougher than ever. For those who didn’t make this round, I always try to keep them in mind for other appointment slots I am responsible for.

It’s worth reminding everyone that Community Board members serve on the front lines, negotiating with developers, government officials, and local stakeholders to shape the future of our neighborhoods—and they do it as volunteers, so they deserve our gratitude!

I’ve worked hard to ensure that these appointees will speak for all parts of our communities —and are well-equipped to meet the challenges that face them.

In fact, on Friday, June 23rd, 2017, from 9 am to 3 pm at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Deputy Borough President Aldrin Bonilla and my staff will conduct trainings on topics ranging from parliamentary procedure to open data and land use policy for old and new members. If you’re a new or existing Community Board member, please RSVP online here: cbcollege.eventbrite.com.
