The 2019 State Budget, What You Need To Know From Harlem To The Hudson

March 31, 2018

Dear Fellow New Yorker,

I am pleased to announce the passage of the 2019 New York State Budget.

This budget is a bold blueprint for progressive action that builds on seven years of success and helps New York continue to lead amid a concerted and sustained assault from Washington.

Here’s what you need to know about the budget:

New York is continuing to phase in the $4.2 billion Middle Class Tax Cut — while protecting New Yorkers from negative federal tax implications.

New York is investing in education at record levels — because children are our future.

New York is requiring transparency in education spending — so we can be sure that state aid is being spent wisely and equitably.

New York is leading the nation with multi-pronged legislation to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.

New York is taking action to prevent gun violence by requiring domestic abusers to surrender all firearms.

New York is bringing justice to sexual assault survivors by dramatically extending the minimum time that hospitals must store rape kits.

New York is instituting landmark protections to ensure our state’s elections remain free from outside influence and cyberattacks.

New York is giving a helping hand to the long-suffering residents of NYC public housing with an additional $250 million investment.

New York is raising much-needed funds for our transit system while addressing the problem of congestion head-on.

You can find full highlights of the 2019 State Budget here.

I am confident that with this budget, we chart a path forward toward a better future for all New Yorkers.

Ever Upward,

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
