March 22, 2017

A woman walking with a small child was shot in the back when gunfire erupted on a Harlem street, police and community leaders say, and she’s among three people who were shot in the neighborhood Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old woman was walking with near West 124th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard at about 8 p.m. when gunshots rang out, police said to our source.

“There were two groups, they were passing by and one group decided to start shooting,” said Rev. Vernon Williams, a community activist.

A 19-year-old man was also shot. He ran to a nearby business about a block away to get help, according to an employee there.

The woman, who was shot in the back, was taken to Harlem Hospital. The man was taken to Lenonx Hill Hospital with a wound to the ankle.

Police are looking for a group of young men, possibly teenagers, in the shooting.

Around the same time, about five blocks away at 120th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, another person was shot. It’s not clear if that shooting was connected.
