Uptown GamesSenator Adriano Espaillat, Council Members Ydanis Rodriguez and Mark Levine, the Armory Foundation and New York Road Runners announce the free fifth annual Uptown Games, to be held Sunday (April 3rd) at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center.

Fifth annual Uptown Games. More than 500 students in 3rd-8th grades from more than 40 schools will receive athletic instruction from New York Road Runners and Armory staff members before participating in short and long distance races, team relays, shot put, and other events. The Uptown Games isn’t about competition. It’s an opportunity to address the disproportionately high obesity levels in Washington Heights and northern Manhattan by instilling healthy habits in children, and offering them exposure to track & field disciplines in a stress free, supportive atmosphere.

Students participating attend schools range from Hamilton Heights Elementary on 146th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, to Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School on Dyckman Street, after-school programs like the “Team Dreamers” and local parochial schools. Senator Adriano Espaillat, Council Members Ydanis Rodriguez, Assemblyman Herman Denny Farrell, Councilman Mark Levine and other elected officials will also attend.
