May 5, 2017

Three projects to improve parks, public housing and schools in West Harlem and Morningside Heights won funding during this year’s participatory budgeting cycle, according to Harlem City Councilman Mark Levine.

The winning projects are:

  • $500,000 to renovate and upgrade the P.S. 125 playground and courtyard
  • $500,000 for lighting and grounds work upgrades at Douglass Houses
  • $300,000 to completely restore the restrooms for the 4 schools located at 433 West 123rd Street

“I am incredibly proud to announce that after months of work, community participation, and a week of voting, my office’s Participatory Budgeting program for 2017 was a massive success,” Levine told Patch in a statement. “Thanks to the hundreds of participants and dozens of dedicated volunteers, nearly 2,000 people voted to choose what improvements they would like to see in our Upper Manhattan community.
