Annual Africana Traditions Conference With A Harlem’s Hubert Harrison Talk

hubert harrison in harlemThis second Annual Philosophy and Religion in Africana Traditions conference will explore the struggle for liberation of African descendant peoples as demonstrated through the instrumentalities of the philosophical and religious imaginations.

Participants will discuss visions, visionaries, and the quest for personal, social and political transformation as demonstrated in the fight for emancipation,   the rise of the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa, The Black Power movement, Rastafarianism, and the current movement around Black Lives Matter.

Some of the personalities up for consideration are Harlem’s Hubert Harrison, James Baldwin, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, and Harlem faves Harriet Tubman, Audre Lorde, Sojourner Truth, Nathanial Turner, Denmark Vesey, Toussaint L’Ouverture, Howard Thurman, Steve Biko, Sonia Sanchez and William R. Jones. Special consideration will be given to the efficacy and sustainability of revolutionary struggles in the age of militarism and mass incarceration.
