One of the best cultural institutions and structures in Harlem and in the United States the Morris Jumel Mansion is a classic design in the Palladian style built around the 1700′s. Where can you take a tour where George Washington slept during the American Revolution and where John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton dined. Great tours, talks and family programming. Tip: they still have one of the only Colonial Gardens in America.
The Hispanic Society of America Museum And Library is a Harlem neo-Classical secret treasure! Check out live restorations underway, the map room, and pieces going back to the 16th century. Tip: the museum crammed full of Spanish masters such as El Greco and Velazquez.
The Studio Museum in Harlem do a great job of showing older artists work, but they do an even better job of showcasing the best of contemporary African-American artists and their work in Harlem and the world. Curator Thelma Golden has done a great job of bringing the museum to the national stage. Tip: the Target Free Sundays rock.
