Our picks to Harlem’s best opera shows and classical performances
Harlem Opera Theater performances include all types of musical offerings: opera, oratory concerts, recitals, Negro Spirituals and varied forms of American music, in keeping with our mission “to provide performance opportunities for professional and developing gifted artists within Harlem. Particular focus is given to the works of African-American composers and to projects that link different aspects of the performing arts.
Musical and cultural diversity are at the heart of what The Harlem Quartet is all about. The string ensemble brings an eclectic program that the path to Haydn’s classical music is smoothed by a trip on Manhattan’s “A” train, made famous by Duke Ellington, complemented with Beethoven thru the jazz-inspired pieces of Wynton Marsalis, and Mozart’s with Chick Corea, who evokes a character in a sci-fi series written by L. Ron Hubbard.
