Become A Studio Museum In Harlem Fall 2015 Intern Now

internsOnly individuals authorized to work for the Museum in the United States will be accepted into the Studio Museum In Harlem internship program. 

The Museum will consider expressions of interest in providing volunteer services to the Museum from non-work authorized individuals.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP 

Communications Interns work closely with the Communications department on file preparation, research, organization and content management forStudio magazine, the Museum’s seasonal publication. The intern will also assist with developing press releases for upcoming exhibitions, preparing press kits and general press related inquiries. Applicant must possess excellent communication and writing skills and be proficient in Photoshop and working with digital files (knowledge of Illustrator is a plus). Good organizational and time management skills and an ability to work independently are essential.

The Communications Internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in Arts Administration, Media Studies, Marketing, or related fields.

CURATORIAL INTERNSHIP

Curatorial interns will work under the direction of the Assistant Curator. Interns will be involved in a range of curatorial projects including research and organization for upcoming exhibitions, maintaining archives and visual materials, reviewing artist submissions and updating artist files and exhibition listings. Interns will work directly with curators, assistants and artists on exhibition checklists, graphics, catalogue production and documentation.

The Curatorial Internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who major/minor in Art History, Visual Culture or a related-field. Applicants should have an interest in curating, excellent writing and research skills, and knowledge of the contemporary art world. Applicants must be able to handle multiple projects at once.

DIRECTOR’S OFFICE INTERNSHIP

Director’s Office intern will work closely with the Executive Assistant to the Director and Chief Curator. Responsibilities include assisting with special event and board meeting preparation, project research, archiving, and handling information requests. Applicants must work well independently and problem-solve with creativity. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required. Excellent communication skills, including writing and a professional phone demeanor, as well as meticulous attention to detail are essential.

Director’s Office internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates who are preparing for careers in Arts Administration, Art/Art History, Museum Studies, or Media Studies.

EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

The Education Intern will work closely with Education department staff on research and development of school, family, and youth, programs for upcoming exhibition seasons. The intern will have the opportunity to become familiar with the current exhibitions on view; research artists, performers, authors and other potential program participants; play a lead role in the development and implementation of education programs; spearhead outreach strategies; and perform day-to-day tasks and administrative support. Some evening and weekend hours are required of the position.

The Education Internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors and seniors who are preparing for careers in Art Education, Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Art History, or related fields. Computer skills are essential.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

The Public Programs and Community Engagement department curates accessible, art-inspired experiences, offering a broad range of opportunities that inspire creativity, incite critical dialogue and foster community. From artist talks and panel discussions to hands-on workshops and off-site collaborations, our department unites and supports the Museum’s diverse, adult audiences. Our intern will assist in researching, coordinating and producing public programs, events, and special projects. The intern will gain hands-on experience in arts administration, coordinating presentations, managing and corresponding with program attendees, organizing tech support, and welcoming and checking-in visitors. As our department regularly interfaces with other Museum departments, the internship provides a unique opportunity to observe the many moving pieces involved in programmatically supporting living artists. The intern will be expected to attend Thursday and Sunday programs and must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be proficient in research and writing, and be able to handle multiple projects at once whilst working independently.

The Community Engagement and Programs Internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in Arts Administration, Art History, programming , production, or related fields.

Fall 2015 Internship Season: September 14–December 18, 2015 (14 weeks)
Required commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week, during the work week
Stipend: $2250
