A Better Chance, A Brighter Future For Today’s Students From Harlem To Hollis

November 5, 2017

Welcome to A Better Chance

Since 1963, A Better Chance has been opening the door to educational opportunities for thousands of young people of color in this nation. Our mission is to increase substantially the number of well-educated young people of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society. We carry out our mission through our signature College Preparatory Schools Program (“CPSP”), which annually recruits, refers and supports about 500 A Better Chance Scholars at more than 300 of the nation’s leading boarding, day and public schools.

The need for access to quality education is greater than ever. Gaps in academic achievement based on race continue. Many students of color are unable to realize their full potential because they lack access to quality educational experiences. This lack of educational access results in an inadequate pipeline of diverse leaders at the highest levels. A Better Chance significantly contributes to the pool of leaders of color who can compete effectively in schools, colleges and the workplace. In our long history, more than 15,000 Alumni have walked through the doors of opportunity and into leadership positions in all sectors of industry, science and the arts.

Together, we can help committed young people of color become future leaders for positive change in our global society. Please navigate through this site (www.abetterchance.org/) to learn more about us, and how to get involved in our movement.

Sincerely,

Sandra E. Timmons, president
