big kap in harlem1Big Kap passed on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016. Big Kap worked with Funkmaster Flex, Lil Jon, the Eastside Boyz, and tons of others. On the Da Ladies In The House track Big Kap is killing it with da ladies, featuring Bahamadia, Lauryn Hill, Precise, Treep, Uneek.

Big Kap, an important DJ in New York City’s rap scene. The news was first reported by Funkmaster Flex. He was 45 years old, The New York Daily News reported that the cause of death was a heart attack, as Kap’s road manager told Billboard.

Born Keith Carter, Kap first came to prominence by DJing with Funkmaster Flex at NYC nightclub the Tunnel in the ’90s. He was affiliated with the Flip Squad, a collective that included Flex, Mister Cee, Cipha Sounds, DJ Enuff, Mark Ronson, and more. In 1995, that group released The Flip Squad All-Star DJs, a compilation album. He also infamously DJed for the late Notorious B.I.G.

In 1999, Kap and Flex released The Tunnel, a compilation album that featured 2Pac, Biggie, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Raekwon, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, and more.
