Bjarke Ingels’s Deconstructed Apartments In Harlem (update)

July 30, 2015

Screen-Shot-2015-07-28-at-11.10.42-AMIn late 2014, Bjarke Ingels Group filed a permit application for a new apartment building at 146 East 126th Street in Harlem.

With the partnership of the project’s developer, Extell with Blumenfeld Group, and its architect, the wunderkind himself, something spectacular was bound to come from it, even if its both Extell and Bjarke’s first Harlem projects. New York YIMBY got their hands on a few preliminary renderings from the project, and they show an undulating, porous-looking facade along 126th Street, with a cantilevering rear over Blumfeld Group’s neighboring Gotham Plaza. YIMBY says that the building will have 233 apartments, which are tentatively broken down into 66 studios, 145 one-bedrooms, and 22 two-bedrooms.

According to its Schedule A, the 11-story building will have amenities similar to Extell’s other projects throughout the city like a virtual reality room, pool, golf simulator, bar, a gym, yoga room, and parking. 47 of the 233 apartments will be priced below market rate.

We look forward to more details (via 125thstreetbid and ny curbed).

Update: We received an email from Rubenstein Associates, who represent the Blumenfeld Development Group stating that Extell stated above has “nothing to do with” the project,  and that “the renderings are not the final ones” – look for to another update.
