Brands Making Strides, Slowly, But Surely On Hijabs Like Harlem Coached Ibtihaj Muhammad

Brand Channel reports that Macy’s is making history as the first U.S. department store brand to sell hijabs. The Verona collection by designer Lisa Vogl includes modest activewear and will be available on Macy’s website.

Uniqlo has carried a line of modest clothing for Muslim women, including hijabs, by designer Hana Tajima for five collections.

Nike began selling a performance hijab for Muslim women athletes in December 2017. It developed the product after Muslim athletes such as American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, she was coached by Harlem’s Akhnaten Spencer-El from Columbia University (who made history by wearing a hijab at the Olympics), complained about wearing a traditional head scarf during competition.
