C. Virginia Fields CEO Of Harlem’s NBLCA Receives Award From NYS Dept of Health

c_virginia_fieldsOn World AIDS Day, Tuesday, December 1st, 2015, the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. (NBLCA) received the 2015 Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award from the New York State Department of Health for its ongoing commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the state.

C. Virginia Fields, president and CEO of NBLCA, accepted the award from Dr. Howard Zucker, Commissioner of Health, in a ceremony held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, New York.

Special Recognition Awards were given to NBLCA and other awardees across New York State for their contributions to improve and promote the health and well-being of state residents.

“We at NBLCA are honored by this award and will persevere in our mission to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic that is disproportionately affecting black people in New York and elsewhere. We will also continue to embrace New York State’s Ending the Epidemic Blueprint to reduce new HIV infections to 750 per year by 2020, from around 3,000 annually today.”

C. Virginia Fields, MSW has been the President and CEO of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. (NBLCA) since 2008. She was appointed to the New York State AIDS Advisory Council by then-Gov. David A. Paterson in 2008. In 2014 she was appointed to New York State’s Ending the Epidemic Task Force.

The National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc., (NBLCA) is a 501c3, not for profit organization with a mission to educate, mobilize, and empower Black leaders to meet the challenge of fighting HIV/AIDS and other health disparities in their local communities.
