Joel Morales, 12, was found by his mother hanging in the bathroom of their apartment in East Harlem, New York, on Tuesday.

Harlem Teachers’ Aide Accused of Sexual Abuse

In a story posted by the NYTimes, Gregory Atkins, 56, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of sexual abuse, attempted criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Monday, the schools chancellor, Dennis M. Walcott, along with P.S. 87’s principal, Monica Berry, and the head of the child abuse unit of the Manhattan district attorney’s office, are to meet with parents to answer questions and explain what steps to take if they suspect Mr. Atkins had inappropriate contact with their children, officials said.
