The 53rd Grammys, Tonight At 8 pm

I love the Grammy’s, it’s great attention deficit TV. Not many awards given out, with the remainder  performances, and stunts. This year, there are appearances, including Dr. Dre with Eminem and Bob Dylan with The Avett Brothers, a tribute to Aretha Franklin featuring Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Cee-Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow joined by the puppets (no, Alicia Keys, where’s the humanity).  Continue reading

Alicia Keys Wins Soul Train Music Awards

The 2010 Soul Train Music Awards aired last night. Hosted by Academy Award nominated actors Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard in the ATL. The show featured Legend Awards and tributes given to Anita Baker and Ron Isley. With performances by Ne-Yo, Tank, Eric Benet, R. Alicia Keys Get Four Soul Train Nominations

New Harlem mom Alicia Keys has something else to celebrate: She’s been nominated for four Soul Train Awards.
The nominations were announced on Monday (Oct. 18) – four days after Keys gave birth to her first child, a son named Egypt.

Usher also got four nominations. Drake was another multiple nominee with three. Double nominees include Monica, Nicki Minaj, Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu and Sade.

A special legend award will be given to Ron Isley and Anita Baker. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson will be the hosts. Continue reading

The Junior Scholars Program at The Schomburg Center

The Schomburg Center Junior Scholars Program has been reinstated for the 2010-2011 school year!  One-hundred youth from the New York Metropolitan area, ages 11 to 18, will be selected to participate in the 9th year of this uniquely designed pre-college black studies program at the Schomburg Center/NYPL.  The program begins on Saturday, October 23, 2010 and ends on May 7, 2011 with the annual Youth Summit.  The Schomburg Junior Scholars Program 2010-2011 is sponsored by The Ford Foundation and New York City Council Member Inez Dickens.
