In 2004 America’s barrier breaking ballet company, Dance Theatre of Harlem was forced to suspend operations. This was a considerable loss to the dance world; for over thirty-five years the company had not only filled a void by hiring and training ballet dancers of color, but it debunked the widely held belief that dancers of African decent were physically ill equipped to dance ballet. On Wednesday, April 10 the Dance Theatre of Harlem was officially resurrected at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Time Warner Center. Continue reading

Netherlands Dans Theater performed at the Koch Theater, Lincoln Center Wednesday April 10 through Friday April 12. The 30-member company under the leadership of Artistic Director Paul Lightfoot has not performed in New York for almost a decade. The high level of artistry from both the dancers and choreographers made it worth the wait. Continue reading
