On October 15, fashion was rocking in Harlem!  The Harlem’s Fashion Row Collections S/S 2010 was created to showcase emerging designers in the Harlem community.  This special night featured the work of upcoming designers Dinna Soliman, Lialia and Jose Duran.  For a touch of experience, the first line to walk down the runway was designed by Project Runway’s and Harlem’s native Epperson.

The smart and talented HFR Advisory Board, made an excellent choice in selecting the night’s honoree: Fashion Icon Stephen Burrows.  SB (Soul Brother as he was introduced by friend Audrey Smaltz) a Fashion Institute of Technology graduate began his career in 1969.

His Boutique “Stephen Burrows World” was the go to fashion center for some of the biggest names in entertainment: Cher, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand.  Along his illustrious career, Mr. Burrows’ designs have received rave reviews in American, French and Japanese editions of Vogue, The New York Times, New York Magazine and Essence.

Salters Scene: The Darrelle Revis Experience

Darrelle Revis

Darrelle Revis

Tuesday July 28, Darrelle Revis from NY Jets celebrates his 24th birthday at Greenhouse with the Darrelle Revis Experience. Taking a moment to enjoy things, Darrelle has been working hard on his football career. He was drafted in the first round by the NY Jets in 2007 and has started every game. With an eye past football, Darrelle has jumped into fashion by becoming the co-owner of Loco Superstar – a t-shirt line.

On his day, Darrelle’s family, friends and supporters packed Greenhouse to party with this NY Jets cornerback. Yes! Harlem was in the building! BET Networks Harlem Heights’ ladies Briana Bigham and Ashlie Gray both worked the red carpet.

Of course a birthday is not a birthday without birthday cake. Fittingly, the cake was decorated with the NY Jets colors.

Check out the HWMag gallery to see party attendees arriving.

Happy Birthday Darrelle!

Entertainment

On “Harlem Heights,” a new reality show on BET, the young and hip stars swish Listerine, treat their allergies with Zyrtec, and sweeten their coffee with Splenda.

For those who do not take note of the corporate logos on mouthwash, allergy medicines or artificial sweeteners, all three products are manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, one of the country’s pre-eminent consumer goods companies.

The products were placed within the scenes of “Harlem Heights” as part of an extensive partnership between Johnson & Johnson and BET, the leading cable channel for black viewers. Through the arrangement, Listerine, Zyrtec and the skin care brand Ambi are woven into the stories of the eight young New York professionals who are profiled on “Harlem Heights.” Splenda and the hand sanitizer Purell are also present as the cast members conduct their daily lives. Crittendon, who works at MTV and is no stranger to the reality genre, said the reason she put her life in front of the camera has a lot to do with feeling misunderstood as a famous person’s other half. Continue reading
