This concert was created as an interpretation of essays collected in the the book “Luis Dias, ¡Echale Gas! by Miguel de Mena. The essays guided us to the selection of songs of Luis Dias’ trajectory as an artist. Some of the political and historical events from his native country made an impact in the way he wrote music and at the same time inspired the upcoming generation of artists in the Dominican Republic and abroad. Actor Francis Mateo will interpret the chosen essays, with original arrangements by La Camerata Washington Heights featuring the renowned Dominican singer Maridalia Hernández as a soloist.
This show will explore Días’s music, his poetry, and his interest in rescuing, transforming, and preserving Dominican music. The concert will navigate different genres of Dominican music through the lens of Luis Días; from his innovating style of bachata with Techno Amargue, to his pioneering Dominican rock style with Transporte Urbano; from jazz to fusion with Madora, and last but not least Luis was dedicated to rescue and preserve the different rhythms from the island going from folklore to nueva trova and to merengue while in Convite. Making Luis Días one the most versatile composers of the Dominican Republic.
