Up Close with CC Minton: African Health Now Celebrates Gift of Life

African Health Now held its “Gift of Life” inaugural benefit hosted by the organizations Board of Directors.  n and took place at Chelsea Piers’ Sunset Terrace on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

Africacrowd1The cocktail benefit was attended by a diverse group of supporters including Bevy Smith, tv and radio personality, Tai Beauchamp, host of TLC’s “What to Wear”, H.E. Kehinde Wiley, contemporary artists, Adepero Oduye, critically-acclaimed actress, and Somi, International singer/songwriter along with other notables.

Guest mixed and mingled over passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails with music by celebrity DJ D-Nice.  A video presentation took place and awards were presented to African artists of the 21st century Wangechi Mutu who received the Humanitarian award, award-winning marketing executive for Apple/I-Tunes Bozoma Saint John received the Leadership Award and International podiatric surgeon Dr. Samuel F. Quartey, DPM, PC was presented with the Health Advocate award.

Africadancer1Proceeds from the benefit will support AHN’s 2016-17 programming and will be the seed funding for African Heath Now’s first-ever Mobile Clinic with goals to deploy in 2018. Since 2006, the organization has impacted 20,000 men, women and children across Ghana.
