July 9, 2015

article-murd-0630Cops nabbed the man they say shot down an innocent 18-year-old who was trying to keep the peace at a Harlem housing project.

Demetrius Washington, 19, of the Bronx, was arrested Wednesday for the the June 29 gunplay in the Polo Houses that left Jordan Barber (above) dead, cops said.

Barber was playing peacemaker between a hip hop group he belonged to and another group when he was shot along with two other men, police said.

The teen’s mother, Lashanda Holman, 34, watched her son die in her arms.

“It helps a lot,” the mother said of the arrest. “It makes my life a little more easier to know he won’t hurt another kid and he’s locked up.”

A wake for Barber will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Benta’s Funeral Home on W. 141st St. A funeral Mass will follow at St. James Presbyterian Church. Joseph Stepansky (source).
