Diddy Tried To End G-Unit/Jimmy Rosemond Beef

February 15, 2014

diddy2Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy reportedly tried his best to ease tensions between G-Unit and incarcerated music mogul James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond (below) prior to a fatal shooting in 2009.

jimmy-henchmanDuring a murder trial this week in New York, a criminal witness revealed Puff’s interest in bringing peace to both parties.

The beef that allegedly led to the execution of a 50 Cent rap crew associate in 2009 involved a sitdown with P. Diddy, a drive-by shooting and an order to injure hip hop industry titan Chris Lighty, a witness said Wednesday in the murder-for-hire trial of music mogul and drug lord James (Jimmy Henchman) Rosemond. Khalil Abdullah, 40, said the years-long feud between Rosemond, of Czar Entertainment, and G-Unit, a clique that includes rapper 50 Cent and was managed by Lighty, hit a rough patch in 2006 after an argument before an awards show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Despite Puff’s attempt, things did not turn out smoothly for Rosemond and Lighty.

P. Diddy, the rapper and producer once known as Puff Daddy, called a peace conference between Rosemond and Lighty, Abdullah said. But it didn’t go well. “Chris ended up mushing [Rosemond] in the face,” he said. “Puff jumped in between them and broke it up.” Rosemond told Abdullah to have Lighty shot in the leg, but the witness didn’t follow through on the order, he said in Manhattan Federal Court. In 2009, Rosemond hired Brian “Slim” McLeod and another goon to lure G-Unit hanger-on Lowell Fletcher to the Bronx and kill him, Abdullah said, citing a conversation he had with Rosemond a day or two later. Details of Rosemond receiving a life sentence surfaced across the Internet last fall.

James Rosemond, a one-time prominent hip-hop manager who was convicted in 2012 of drug trafficking, was sentenced to life in prison in Brooklyn federal court on Friday. Rosemond was convicted of overseeing what officials said was an $11 million a year bicoastal cocaine trafficking business that used a musical equipment shipping company as cover to transport cocaine and cash. “His image as a music impresario was a cover for the real Jimmy Rosemond, a thug in a suit,” said Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch. In 2011, reports of Henchman being charged for taking part in the murder of rap rival 50 Cent’s associate emerged.

They called him Jimmy Henchman — the man with the Teflon reputation, tied for years to the feud that led to the murders of two legends of the hip-hop world. But on Friday, officials in Manhattan said the man, James Rosemond, was being charged with arranging the murder of an associate of the rapper 50 Cent. In an indictment announced on Friday, Mr. Rosemond, 47, was charged with conspiring with five other men to kill the associate, Lowell Fletcher, in 2009. “This has not been a good month for Jimmy the Henchman,” Raymond W. Kelly, the New York police commissioner, said in a statement. He said the murder of Mr. Fletcher had been retaliation for an assault on Mr. Rosemond’s son. (New York Times)
