Fatherhood Buzz Festival At Denny Moes with Judge Mathis In Harlem

On Saturday, Sept 6th, Dennis Mitchell offered free hair cuts to children going back to school.  Judge Greg Mathis of the Judge Mathis TV court show also pays a visit to Denny Moe’s Superstar barbershop in Harlem. Edennys1veryone is gathered at the shop for the Having A Safe and Successful School Year Fatherhood Buzz Festival produced by President Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative project, fatherhood.gov. The Buzz Fest is a series of programs designed to promote responsible fatherhood in 166 barbershops across 25 states in the U.S.

The shop was filled with lots of kids buzzing around having fun as they waited to be called to the barbers’ chair.  Parents and fans of Judge Mathis were gathered and excited to meet him and pose for pictures.

Kenneth Braswell, executive director of NRFC (National Responsible Fathers Clearing House), conducted a live interview with the Judge.  They talked about the importance of fatherhood and resources for fathers and families.  Ms. Barbara Andrews was there to greet the crowd on behalf of Joyce Thomas, regional Administrator for the US Department of Health & Human Services Administration.

The coordinator of Fatherhood.gov, Ed Lawson announced the winner, Edwin Mejia, of a $3000.00 barbershop college scholarship and to help him along the way, judge Mathis presented him with his barbershop tool kit.  Marsha Bonner from The Hugs Movement, Metro Plus Health services and Hot 97 radio station were also present.

The gathering was about how father’s can play a positive role in the lives of their children. The talk was about being proactive in their children’s education and being good men and fathers.  During the Q + A, I asked Judge Mathis why did he decided to come to Harlem.  Here is what he had to say…

“Harlem is one of the most special places in history for African Americans and Harlem really sets the tone of the rest of Black America, and as such, when we talking about fatherhood and responsibilities and the trend toward more responsible fathers, certainly Harlem is the place to start.  Harlem set the trend in everything else, so we going to set the trend in positive fatherhood!

The Judge Mathis show 16th season premiers September 8th on WLNY (Ch, 10/55) @ 2:00pm and 3:00pm.  Beginning today and through September 12th, the Judge Mathis show will feature a special premiere week of cases with litigants from across metro New York.
