hamilon-heighhtsA firefighter was seriously injured responding to a fire that broke out early Thursday morning at a 6-story apartment building in the West Harlem sub-neighborhood of Hamilton Heights, an FDNY spokesman told our source.

Nine other people — five civilians and four firefighters — suffered minor injuries during the fire, the FDNY spokesman said. The firefighter who was seriously injured is in stable condition, fire officials said.

The fire broke out on the top floor of the building around 1:12 a.m. and spread to the building’s roof, fire officials said. The fire was classified as a two-alarm fire and 105 fire personnel were sent in response, according to an FDNY spokesman. The fire was under control by 2:30 a.m, fire officials said.

The Fire Marshal’s office is still investigating to determine what caused the fire, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.
