Global STEM Alliance Partners With iCarnegie Global Learning

April 8, 2015

NeXXt082_edit_SS2Today, the Global STEM Alliance of the New York Academy of Sciences (GSA) and iCarnegie Global Learning LLC. (“iCarnegie”), a leading provider of global STEM education, continue on the promise of the GSA to develop a worldwide partnership of governments, companies, NGOs, universities, and schools to improve student access to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) mentors and education tools.

A recent white paper titled “The Global STEM Paradox,” reported that while there are sufficient numbers of graduates in STEM, employers still report difficulty in filling STEM jobs. One of the reasons for this disparity is the low numbers of graduates who have the skills needed to match actual job requirements. To address this issue, iCarnegie and the GSA will provide national governments and academic institutions with education assessments, curriculum, and technology solutions.

(from Harlem to Harare) We need to change the way we think about STEM education and careers worldwide…

“We need to change the way we think about STEM education and careers worldwide,” says Celina Morgan-Standard, SVP of Global Business Development at the New York Academy of Sciences. “By working with iCarnegie, and members of the GSA, we hope to build a strong STEM ecosystem of government, industry, and school supported initiatives that promote global economic development, and improved STEM education for young people”

From robotics and computer science curriculum for ages 5-18, to software development programs and digital arts, the partnership will support both education and workforce development, and provide governments and schools with advice in setting curriculum standards; supporting both pedagogy and gifted student enrichment programs.

…this partnership allows us to connect more teachers and students to improve critical STEM education globally

“iCarnegie is in the business of helping governments, institutions, and global organizations advance STEM education through the application and use of STEM-based teaching programs and our unique project-based approach to learning,” says Skip Smith, President, iCarnegie Global Learning. “GSA is playing a much-needed leadership role in enhancing STEM education and this partnership allows us to connect more teachers and students to improve critical STEM education globally. Our programs address the challenges that teachers face with regard to STEM-oriented instruction, and the ability to integrate STEM subjects in such a way that students see the interconnectedness and interdependence between these disciplines and solving real world problems.”
