Gov’s Ball Gives $10K to Harlem Explosion Victims

govae340115-3e81-409c-981f-d60458001948Organizers for the Governors Ball Music Festival are looking to lend a helping hand to the victims of the East Harlem building explosion earlier this year.

The Governors Ball Music Festival is set to kick off on Randall’s Island Friday.

Each year the founders of the music festival choose local organizations to give back to.

And City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito says this year organizers will be donating $10,000 to the Harlem relief efforts.

They’re also encouraging concert goers to donate as well via the Mayor’s Fund website at

Those who donate $10 or more will be eligible for two VIP tickets for next year’s festival as well as event merchandise.

“Not only will the founders of the governors ball be generously donating $10,000 to support recovery efforts in East Harlem, that means a lot to me personally, and encouraging concert goers to contribute to the mayor’s fund to advance New York City they have also committed to supporting local community development by partnering with neighborhood organizations to create 100 new local jobs and a college internship program to provide on the job training to area students,” said Mark-Viverito (source).

The funds will go towards helping families displaced by the March 12th collapse as well as small businesses and others affected by the disaster.
