On Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, the Wendy Hilliard Gymnastics Foundation (WHGF) celebrated the rhythmic and artistic gymnastics performances of over 300 students ages 3-17 at the Harlem Armory at its end-of-year Harlem Gymnastics Showcase. The Harlem-based not-for-profit organization is located at 550 W 155th St, New York, NY 10032, 212.316.0315, www.wendyhilliard.org/, provides free and low-cost quality gymnastics programs for urban youth. Its founder, Wendy Hilliard, was the first African-American to represent the U.S. in international competition, and a member of the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team for a record of nine times. The foundation has been in Harlem for 20 years and over 17,000 kids from Harlem, Washington Heights & South Bronx have gone through her local programming. Select students whom have made it through rounds of competitive cuts will go on to compete in the USA National Competition at the end of the month.
After two decades of successful programming in Harlem, Wendy has recently brought her programming to her hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
