Harlem Congressman Adriano Espaillat On President Trump’s Address To Congress

March 1, 2017

Today, Congressman Adriano Espaillat issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress:

“It is no secret that I strongly disagree with many of the policies that have been introduced by President Trump, and feel no differently following last night’s address to Congress, 40 days into his administration,” said Rep. Espaillat.

“The President has sown fear in America’s vulnerable communities – with a cruel and unconstitutional executive agenda that calls for mass deportations and immigration round-ups.  His actions to repeal thec (ACA) and declaring an all-out war on Americans’ right to affordable health care; actions to enable Wall Street to prey on Americans’ retirement savings; and by allowing Russia’s grip on his Administration to endanger our security and our democratic process.

“Last night’s address was an effort to skim over the real issues that our country is facing, an effort to spin reality and claim that the policies being put forth by this administration are solutions, which is a lie.

“President Trump has lost the confidence of many Americans.  He lost in court when trying to ban Muslims from our country.  He has lost the confidence of his own intelligence agencies because of his deep rooted ties to Russia, and he has lost his grip on the reality of what it really takes to keep our country great.”
