The world was reminded of Aretha Franklin‘s divaness on Tuesday when CBS aired the pre-taped Kennedy Center Honors celebration from Washington, D.C. In paying tribute to Carole King, one of several honorees, Queen Aretha completely brought the house down with a performance of her 1968 classic, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” It was so powerful that Carole King herself couldn’t stay in her seat, George Lucas had to hold her down. Gina Rodriguez sang along while Viola Davis put her hands up in the air, as you do when you get the holy-ghost. President Barack Obama had something in his eyes.
Here’s the video:
Thanks, Obama. And thanks, Aretha.
The great Aretha Franklin brought the house down! Everyone was brought to cheers and tears. What a testament of her gift from God! She’s an original — there’s no one like her.
