Harlem Fave Ma$e Wants His Bad Boy Props

December 7, 2017

BET reports that fans may have always seen Harlem man Diddy and Notorious B.I.G as the faces of Bad Boy Entertainment back in the ’90s, but there’s another artist who says he deserves some credit in building the label up as one of the most iconic of its generation.

In a new interview with Angie MartinezMa$e made an argument for why he (and his pen) should be credited for spearheading the “golden era of Bad Boy.”

According to the New York rapper, he was never really acknowledged for the amount of writing he contributed to other artists’ albums and the overall sound of the label. “They never gave me credit for that. All my awards went to Puff,” he stated. “I wrote all those songs. There was songs that I had on my album that they gave to Biggie for his album.”

While Ma$e admits that he is “under Biggie” and pays homage to his former labelmate’s legacy, he suggests that he deserves more respect. “If you knew that Ma$e was the one doing all of that, you would see me in a different light,” he added. “Even to date, people praise Bad Boy. The real golden era of Bad Boy, I was spearheading… When Biggie passed away and the company is in ambiguity and everybody is lost and in shambles, it was my pen.”

Ma$e undoubtedly influenced ’90s music and Bad Boy. His debut solo project, Harlem World, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. He has also appeared on a number of hit records with Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, Brandy and many others.
