The NYPD has identified a suspect wanted in connection with a non-fatal shooting this week in Harlem, police told source.

Simon Mendez, 34, is suspected of shooting a 25-year-old man early Monday morning in the vicinity of West 122nd Street and Mount Morris Park West — just outside Marcus Garvey Park — police said. Mendez and the victim, who has not been identified, were engaged in a verbal argument before the shooting, police said.

Mendez left the scene for a time before returning shortly before 1 a.m. and shooting the victim in the lower left leg, police told Patch. The victim was treated for non life-threatening wounds at Harlem Hospital, police said.

Mendez (pictured above) stands 5-foot-6 and weighs about 150 pounds, police said. He fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting and is still at large, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
