Harlem Teacher Sexually Abused Up To 6 Kids

teacher sex abuseA teacher at a West Harlem public school sexually assaulted up to six students — and school officials swept the allegations under the rug, court papers say.

In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, a public school dad identified only as “A.A.” says his daughter was one of the victims of teacher Adiyemi Prowell, and he wants permission to sue the city for its bungling of the case.

The dad said his daughter was just 11 when Prowell started preying on her at the Renaissance Leadership Academy in 2012, when she was in sixth grade.

The abuse — including molesting and groping her — continued throughout the school year, and even summer school, which “Abby” was required to go to because her grades went south.

The girl tried to get out of Prowell’s class, but wasn’t allowed to, court papers say, and her grades suddenly got so bad school staffers thought she might have a disability.

In fall of 2013, the school officials abruptly removed Prowell from his class, court papers say, prompting rumors that he may have harmed some of his students.

“After Prowell left, Abby overheard RLA students speculating that Powell was removed because he sexually assaulted one of his students,” the court papers say.

But Abby’s parents didn’t find out what happened to her until November 2013, when she started crying uncontrollably and said Prowell had touched her inappropriately.

Months later, the parents reported Prowell to cops, who later told them Prowell was being investigated for sexually assaulting six children at the school.

But school staffers never said a word about the accused teacher to parents, court papers say.

Prowell, 29, was arrested in August of last year, and quietly pleaded guilty to one felony and multiple misdemeanor sex abuse charges in April.
