Harlem Woman Who Kills Boyfriend With Hot Oil Gets Prison Time

August 9, 2017

A Harlem woman who burned and stabbed her boyfriend to near-death following a domestic argument will face nearly two decades in state prison, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced Tuesday.

Myeshia Hawkins-Taylor (Left) was sentenced to 16 years in prison Tuesday, more than one month after pleading guilty to second-degree attempted murder charges, according to the DA’s office.

On January 30, 2016, Hawkins-Taylor dumped scalding hot cooking oil on her boyfriend’s face and body while he was sleeping, prosecutors told Patch. Hawkins-Taylor and her boyfriend had gotten into a domestic argument the day before.

When Hawkins-Taylor’s boyfriend tried to escape their Harlem apartment she stabbed him the arm, leg and abdomen and did not call 911 to get him help until 36 hours later, prosecutors told Patch.

“Myeshia Hawkins-Taylor scalded and stabbed her boyfriend, then, for a full day, prevented him from seeking the medical treatment he desperately needed,” said District Attorney Vance. “It’s a common misconception that only women fall victim to domestic violence β€” in reality, a recent survey estimates one in seven men will experience severe physical intimate partner violence in their lifetime.”
