Last month, Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab hosted her annual summer cocktail reception. More than 400 guests attended the event which took place in the historic Roosevelt House on East 65th Street.
Roosevelt House, an integral part of Hunter College since 1943, re-opened in 2010 as a public policy institute honoring the distinguished legacy of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Their former home was beautifully restored and now serves a new purpose: to educate students in public policy and human rights, to support faculty research, and to foster creative dialogue.
As Eleanor Roosevelt said in 1943, after she donated the combined houses to Hunter College, “No houses could have a better background for the use they will now serve. Always in both houses there was an effort to look on all human beings with respect, and to have a true understanding of the points of view of others.”
The event was attended by friends of the college, and members of Hunter advisory board and loyal alumni. Among the guests were former Mayor David Dinkins, and Constance Wright, Assemblyman Keith Wright and many others.
