Harlem’s Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito On President-Elect Donlad Trump

November 10, 2016

Melissa_Mark-ViveritoStatement from New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito:

Even at this deeply painful moment for many, the peaceful transition of power remains a bedrock of American democracy. Donald Trump will become the next President of the United States and we wish him well because the President’s success is all our success. We don’t know the implications for New York City yet- but what we do know is that our City will remain an unwavering beacon of hope and optimism for the nation and for the world. We are and will continue to be a city that respects and protects immigrants, people of diverse faiths and races, LGBTQ New Yorkers, a city that values and empowers women and all of our communities. We are better, stronger and prosperous because of our commitment to inclusion. To every New Yorker, I – along with my City Council colleagues – continue to affirm that we are a city which belongs to everyone. We will work side by side to fulfill that promise.
