Harlem’s Espaillat Statement On 50th Anniversary Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Assassination

Today, uptown Congressman Adriano Espaillat released the following statement to mark the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.   

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a tremendous impact on American history and our culture,” said Rep. Espaillat. “Five decades after Dr. King’s assassination, his message still rings true. His is a message of inclusion, equality, and equity for all. Today we pause fifty years after his dream, to reflect on the civil rights movement, leadership in the face of adversity, perseverance in the face of great challenges, and efforts that will continue until we, as a nation, will to reach the mountain top.

“Dr. King played a pivotal role in ending racial segregation and changing the dialogue of race relations in America. His message and his legacy remind us of how far we’ve come, our accomplishments as a nation, and the work that remains. The tragic event that took Dr. King’s life, did not stop his dream. Because of Dr. King’s work, we are a stronger, more resilient and more unified society – and because of his dream, we will continue our efforts to ensure and secure unity and equality for all.”
