‘Heat Advisory’ Issued For Temps Coming From Harlem To Hollis

July 19, 2017

Are you hoping for relief from the hot, muggy air we’ve been blessed with over the last few days from Harlem to Hollis? Keep hoping.

Forecasters say the rest of the week will be a miserable one, with high temperatures at 90 degrees and up and healthy doses of humidity putting heat indexes in the mid- to upper-90s.

The National Weather Service issued a “heat advisory” for the tri-state area, urging people to use extra caution and stay hydrated.

“Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoors,” the National Weather Service says.

“Use air conditioning to stay cool at home, or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.

“To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.”

Temperatures Wednesday will top out at 93, according to the weather service, with humidity making it feel even hotter. On Thursday, temperatures could reach 95 with a heat index of up to 98. On Friday, things will be back down to a cool 93.
