Harlem’s Rev Sharpton On LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling (video)

April 27, 2014

0426-al-sharpton-tmz-landov-4Reverend Al Sharpton is calling for the NBA to investigate Donald Sterling ASAP — telling TMZ Sports, “No one should be allowed to own a team if they have in fact engaged in this kind of racial language.”

Sharpton is calling for the league to make an investigation into Sterling its #1 priority — adding, “We are prepared at National Action Network to rally in front of the NBA headquarters if this matter is not immediately dealt with.”

TMZ Sports broke the story … Sterling — who owns the L.A. Clippers — went off on his girlfriend for hanging out with black people in public and told her NOT to bring black people to his games.

Sharpton comments were recorded moments before loading on a flight at La Guardia airport and he gave more details on the possible rally:

It all started when Donald Sterling (born Donald Tokowitz in Chicago whose parents were Jewish immigrants) owner of the Los Angeles Clippers spoke to his girlfriend V. Stiviano, in a taped recording published by TMZ regarding her ‘hanging out with other people of color publically.’

In a follow-up article Yahoo Sports spoke to Indiana Pacers power forward David West who referenced the numerous prior allegations surrounding Sterling in a conversation with Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star:

[…] “You can’t be naïve about the thoughts and mindsets of (some) people in this country,” West said. “We live in this sort of reality anyway where we understand that people … have all types of perceptions towards us, whether good or bad. I guess being an athlete or entertainer, people can come cheer for you but as soon as the game is over, they are who they are and they think how they think, they feel how they feel.

“I’m not naïve to that. I don’t think our society has all of a sudden changed and people who are in power all of a sudden think different about us, just because you dribble a basketball or catch a (darn) football, it’s just not the reality of it.”

“He is who he is. They ain’t going to change the man,” West said. “The man’s going to go to his grave being who he is. … This is not going to change him.

“Because he has black athletes or whatever. He is who he is. There have been folks before him and there have been a ton of them after him.”

Who are the people calling Donald Sterling that his girlfriend is with other people of color?

We live in one of the greatest country in the world that was born from pain, old histories die hard if they die at all.

What do you think about all of this?
