HW Pick: SummerStage Brings Ntozake Shange And Others To Central Park

Join the City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage shows Wednesday, August 9th through Sunday, August 13th in East River Park, Manhattan (East River Park Amphitheater). These free shows will feature performances by the poets Stacyann Chin, Ntozake Shange and Sarah Kay, the dance company Company SBB, salsa singer Andy Montañez, alternative R&B singer Khalid, and DJ sets from Tony Touch, Danny Krivit, Jellybean Benitez and D-Train! Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 from 7PM – 9PM – Nuyorican Poets Cafe: Stacyann Chin / Ntozake Shange / Sarah Kay

  • Famed poetry house Nuyorican Poets Café presents performances from spoken work artist Stacyann Chin, playwright Ntozake Shange and internationally known poet Sarah Kay at East River Park.

Thursday, August 10th from 7PM –9PM – Company SBB with Burnt Sugar Arkestra

  • NYC-based dance company Company SBB is set to perform with jazz ensemble Burnt Sugar Arkestra – at East River Park. There will also be a dance workshop for all ages at 7PM / performance at 8PM.

Friday, August 11th from 6PM – 9PM – Andy Montañez

  • The Godfather of Salsa, singer and songwriter Andy Montañez will perform. There will also be a dance workshop at 6PM in East River Park / performance at 7PM.

Saturday, August 12th from 5PM –7PM – Khalid

  • Alternative R&B star and a millennial sensation in smooth rhythms, known for his top charting single “Location,” Khalid – at East River Park.

Sunday, August 13th from 4PM –7PM – Funkbox in the Park: Tony Touch / Danny Krivit / Jellybean Benitez / D-Train / honoring Evelyn Santos

  • A melody of DJ’s including, Tony Touch, Danny Krivit, Jellybean Benitez and D-Train are set to perform for Funkbox in the Park, one of New York’s longest running weekly dance parties, who will be honoring Evelyn Santos for her 50 years of involvement in New York City’s nightlife – at East River Park. There will also be a dance workshop at 4PM for all ages and levelswith dancer, choreographer, and FunkBox Member, Voodoo Ray, teaching a class in House and Freestyle Dance.
