HW Talk: The State Of Indie Filmmakers Of Color In Harlem (update)

June 10, 2015

hw talk at raw space-04ImageNation Foundation, Reel Sisters and Harlem World Magazine have partnered to create the Harlem World Magazine  HW Talk Series regarding the State of Indie Filmmakers of Color.

The goal of the talk is to assess how to effectively move forward in the film industry and maintain real power, wealth, and creative control” said Hadasah Ingrid, Harlem World Magazine contributor.

Can independent black filmmakers achieve true success in the entertainment industry by making an impact with great content and grab a sizable portion of the market in order to attain wealth, fame, and power like their counterparts in the digital age?

Diversity has taken television by storm in terms of proactive content and talent. What will it take to break further ground on multi digital platforms as well as independent or studio made projects?

With Social Media and web platforms giving unprecedented direct access to audiences, what happens to the indie filmmakers of color when their content reaches a large audience and they become “bankable?” What should they do? Should they go mainstream with a “Hollywood Contract” – if they do what truly happens to them?

How should we be doing business…the smart way? Is there a “Shonda Rhimes” in the film world? Can there be? How do we get there? Can we hold on to power, our content, and our own ability to greenlight and distribute our films?

“Our goal with the HW Talk series is to extend the conversation beyond what our local expert contributors create in the content posted on our website HarlemWorldMag.com as it’s pushed across our social networking platforms Google, Facebook, Twitter and Blogtalkradio.” said Daniel Tisdale, CEO and Founder of Harlem World Magazine, Inc.,. “Also, we are extremely happy with the assembled panel to discuss issues regarding Independent filmmakers in and out of Harlem along with our partners ImageNation and African Voices.” Mr. Tisdale Continued.
