The 2016 EmblemHealth Hispanic Games – the largest high school sports meet in the country – will take place at the Armory’s New Balance Track and Field Center on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9, 2016.
This is the second year that EmblemHealth is sponsoring the Hispanic Games. The event was created in 1994 to honor Washington Heights and its Latino community. It has since expanded to include over 5,000 student athletes from around the country and features freshman, sophomore, and novice track events on Friday in addition to a complete schedule of invitational and varsity events on Saturday.
Among the many talented student-athlete participants will be T.C. Williams High School (Alexandria, Virginia) senior Noah Lyles, who was named 2015 Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation. Noah’s younger brother Josephus (National Champion in the 400m) is also entered in this year’s EmblemHealth Hispanic Games.

* The opening ceremonies will begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday, with New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat in attendance as one of the honored guests. EmblemHealth’s new company mascot, Emblem the Wellness Dog, will be introduced at the event. Emblem will meet and greet the athletes and their families, and will be available for personal and team photos.
* At 2 pm, there will be a special “Leaders of Tomorrow” recognition event honoring six high school boys and six high school girls – all student athletes – who excel in the classroom.
