Kids Loved WeWork Halloween 2017 In Harlem (Photos)

October 30, 2017

This year, WeWork is spending its Halloween in Harlem. Working with Children’s Aid Society, WeWork threw a party on Friday for students at Children’s Aid’s Dunlevy Milbank Center that promoted WeWork values of creativity, community, fun and safety.

More than 100 WeWork volunteers participated in the event. The celebration was coordinated by WeWork’s Harlem Community Lead, Eugene Clowney, who grew up in Harlem and attended Children’s Aid Society’s Dunlevy Milbank Center as a child.

“When presented the opportunity to quarterback this Halloween give back event, I immediately thought of the CAS program I attended as a child. I knew they already had planned a Halloween haunted house celebration so my goal was to take it to level 1000. This means everything in the world because I will forever just be a kid from Harlem.”

WeWork Harlem members provided entertainment throughout the evening, including live performances from Elise Monte Dance. Silicon Harlem showcased virtual reality Halloween games and donated cardboard VR sets to all the kids in attendance. In advance of the celebration, WeWork locations across the city held a costume donation drive for Children’s Aid Society.

WeWork volunteers engaged students in Halloween activities including:

  • Create your own monster costume and “monster mash” dance
  • Haunted house experience
  • Fear factor station
  • Creator station where students decorated their Trick or Treat canvas tote bags with things they would like to create to ensure a better future for their community and the world

The NYPD provided tips on Halloween safety, with a special visit from McGruff the Crime Dog. WeWork members also distributed safety kits to students.

Roughly 150 kids between ages 4 and 14 participated in the event including students came from Success Academy Harlem 1, Future Leaders Academy, Harlem Hebrew, P.S. 811, P.S. 149, Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem and St. Paul’s School.
