LeRoy Neiman Art Center Presents Autumn de Forest: Selected Works

January 11, 2017

The Arts Horizons LeRoy Neiman Art Center, located at 2785 Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem, welcomes the multi-talented 15 year old artist, Autumn de Forest, to Harlem with an incredible exhibition entitled, Autumn de Forest: Selected Works, which opened on December 2, 2016 and runs through January 31, 2017.

Painting since the age of five, Autumn de Forest is the youngest painter to ever have a solo museum exhibition when her works were showcased at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, PA. Autumn has become a well-known and highly collected artist whose work sells for up to $25,000

This is an amazing accomplishment for any living artist much less a 15 year-old teenager. Her expansive portfolio and artistic styles mirrors some of her favorite painters including Andy Warhol for pop art and Pablo Picasso for abstract and her paintings are exhibited alongside these and other contemporary and modern artists.

“Autumn is a young artist and philanthropist and serves as an excellent example that having the opportunity to embrace the arts at an early can help you to do extraordinary things,” said Marline A. Martin, Executive Director and Curator at the LeRoy Neiman Art Center. “She celebrates the power of the arts through her achievements. The Center is delighted to have the distinct honor of being the first to present and exhibit her paintings to the New York City community,”

There are over 20 paintings including two triptychs in the exhibition. Autumn also supports charitable and humanitarian efforts receiving an honor at the Vatican for these efforts. Her ability to express how learning in the arts has empowered her has led to speaking engagements on the importance of arts in the school as well as being the youngest artist featured through the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities Turnaround Artist Program. The Walt Disney Company and Discovery Channel often described her as a child prodigy with recognition to her impressive portfolio that is making her indelible mark on the art scene with her own unique style and vision. Autumn has created artwork for a line of Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars (sold exclusively at Nordstrom stores nationwide).

“Painting was LeRoy Neiman’s primary art form, he is best known for his brilliantly colored, stunningly energetic images,” continued Ms. Martin. “Here at The Center, the experiences of viewing and making art are very connected. This exhibition is a reflection of our vision to continue Mr. Neiman’s legacy and to affirm our commitment that when children are exposed to art at an early age, it can be a game changer.”

Through a generous grant from the renowned artist, LeRoy Neiman, Arts Horizons established the LeRoy Neiman Art Center to create a community-based arts center, serving young people and families in need. The mission of the Center is to strengthen the community through the arts by providing quality arts experiences, supporting the skills that encourage life-long learning, and building sustainable partnerships and collaborations. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council with additional support from The Park West Foundation. The Center receives on-going support from the LeRoy Neiman Foundation as well as other foundations, corporations and individuals.
