July 23, 2015

lincoln center silent discoLincoln Center will present five nights of dancing under the stars at outdoor locations in each of the boroughs of New York City starting in Harlem on August 19 through September 3.

The free events are part of Lincoln Center’s effort to bring its arts, entertainment and education programs into the neighborhoods of New York. “Lincoln Center and its wonderful performances and programs belong in all neighborhoods,” says Jed Bernstein, President of Lincoln Center, “and we are delighted that we can celebrate summer with all New Yorkers with Silent Disco.”

Last summer Lincoln Center Local launched its first silent disco offsite at the beautiful Hunter’s Point South Park in Long Island City. It was a huge hit, with more than 1,000 people participating. Lincoln Center is building on that success with a repeat in Long Island City on September 3, as well as silent discos in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Each location will feature a variety of genres of dance music, including disco, salsa, top 40, and swing, selected by three deejays per site.

Said New York City Council member Jimmy Van Bramer, who was instrumental in siting and launching Silent Disco in the boroughs in its inaugural year, “With Lincoln Center we are bringing dynamic programming that not only engages the community but also brings world-class productions and entertainment directly to local neighborhoods.  There’s no better way to enjoy a summer evening than by dancing the night away, whether in Long Island City in Queens or one of the other locations around the city.”

Each event will begin with a professional dance lesson taught by one of the city’s top instructors in Harlem:

Wednesday, August 19, 6:00 pm – Dance floor opens

6:30 – 7:15 pm – Dance lesson

 7:30 to 10:00 pm – Dancing
