slow gin fixx harlemFollowing a phenomenal summer tour schedule throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, including performing at renown festivals such as the Toronto Jazz Festival opening for Al Jarreau and acclaimed venues like the Blue Note, SOUL UNDERSTATED (SU) www.soulunderstated.com continues to give it’s fans fierce soul stylings with a new monthly residency at Gin Fizz Harlem. Beginning November 6th, catch SOUL UNDERSTATED every first Friday at Gin Fizz located at 308 Malcolm X Boulevard, Harlem USA, NY at 9 pm.

SOUL UNDERSTATED (SU) is among the most dynamically talented discoveries in music since the Motown era. The brilliance of their sound lies in combining the sultry vocals of Mavis ‘SWAN’ Poole, the melodic drummer Jeremy ‘BEAN’ Clemons, and a mothership of all-star musicians. With musical sensibilities that include jazz, soul, funk, gospel, and hip hop, the influences on their sound are as varied and timeless as the music they create.

“This monthly residence at Gin Fizz is a great honor for the band,” states Clemons. “As NYC is our base, we’re jazzed to be able to continuously deliver the best of SU and musically expand our platform to our amazing local fans regularly.”

“The musical history of Harlem is incomparable,” adds Poole. “Our sound is reflective of this richness and pays homage to the greats.”

On the Shoulders of Giants was released the summer of 2014 and is the second collaboration between SWAN and BEAN, as they worked together to produce SWAN’s solo project, Soul Tree. This debut product delivers new, refreshing, and original music while simultaneously leaning on the style, sound, and feel of amazing artists who came before with a flavor of guest appearances from Mark Whitfield, Russell Gunn, Brian Jackson, Marc Cary and Chris Rob, to name a few.

Performing together since 2008, the band has appeared at venues across the US, Russia, and the Ukraine and collaborated with artists such as Nicholas Payton and DJ Mikeflo.  With elements reminiscent of Earth Wind and Fire, Ella Fitzgerald, Curtis Mayfield, Sarah Vaughan and Count Basie, SOUL UNDERSTATED is contemporary soul music at its best, delivering soul, funk and jazz with gospel as a side dish.
