The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), along with the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund are proud to announce the unveiling of a new initiative, Communities for Healthy Food NYC, which seeks to improve access to healthy food, increase nutrition education and create food-sector jobs in low-income communities.

LISC and the Illumination Fund will announce Communities for Healthy Food NYC and discuss its impact in four economically challenged neighborhoods: Cypress Hills, Bedford Stuyvesant, Mount Eden and West Harlem—all expected to be hard hit by Congressional cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The new initiative is part of LISC’s comprehensive, neighborhood-based efforts to address the underlying challenges low-income communities face.

WHO: LISC is implementing the program through four experienced community-based organizations, with seed funding from the Illumination Fund.  Speaking at the event will be Michael Rubinger, President & CEO and Denise Scott Executive Vice President for Programs for LISC; Laurie M. Tisch from the Illumination Fund; and Jack Doyle, Executive Director for New Settlement Apartments (Mount Eden).
