Man Arrested For String Of Central Park Robberies In Harlem

February 5, 2017

A man accused of attacking three women in Central Park in Harlem this month has been charged with robbery, assault and attempted sexual assault, police told source.

Shaiquisse Mont, 20, is accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman on January 19, 2017 and robbing two women — one of whom was 80-years-old — within 15 minutes on Friday, January 27th, 2017. The three attacks occurred in the northwest section of the park near West 106th Street and West Drive, near the Great Hill, police said.

On January 19, 2017 Mont grabbed a 26-year-old woman by the neck and threw her to the ground, police said. After demanding money he grabbed the woman’s phone, pulled down his pants and demanded that she perform a sex act on him, police said. The woman screamed, which prompted two passersby to intervene, police told source. The two good samaritans approached the attack and chased the man northbound into the park, police said. The woman suffered contusions to her arms but refused medical attention, police told Patch.

About 10 days later Mont re-visited the same portion of Central Park and attacked two more women, police said.

Mont first approached a 38-year-old woman from behind near the Great Hill in Central Park around noon on Friday, an NYPD spokesman told source. The man then grabbed the woman by the neck and shoved her to the ground before demanding her money and phone, police said. The woman, who suffers from a hearing impairment, told the robber that she was deaf and the robber then fled the crime scene, an NYPD spokesman said.

Fifteen minutes later the same man punched an 80-year-old woman in the head near West 106th Street and West Drive, police said. The man grabbed the woman’s iPhone and then fled the scene, an NYPD spokesman told source.

Both victims suffered only minor injuries and did not need to be treated at a hospital, police told source. No arrests have been made and the investigation into the robberies is ongoing, police said.

Mont, a resident of East Harlem, was arrested Wednesday night around 10:15, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
