April 7, 2017

Marvel’s Luke Cage” has been nominated for a prestigious Peabody Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in electronic media. Fellow Marvel/Netflix drama “Jessica Jones” won the coveted award last year.

Other finalists in the entertainment category include “American Crime,” “Atlanta,” “Cleverman,” “Lemonade,” “Stranger Things,” “This Is Us,” “The Night Of” and “Veep.”

Following the announcement, “Luke Cage” showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker took to Twitter to express his excitement:

“Luke Cage” is the third collaboration between Marvel and Netflix, following “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.” The drama stars Mike Colter as a former convict turned hero following a sabotaged experiment that left him with unbreakable skin and super-strength. Following the events of “Jessica Jones,” where the character was first introduced, Luke returned to Harlem to both rebuild his life and confront his past.

Netflix ordered a second season of “Luke Cage” in December, but no premiered date has been announced. Colter will next be seen as Cage in “The Defenders,” the eight-episode miniseries that arrives Aug. 18 on the streaming service.

The winners in the entertainment category of the 76th Peabody Awards will be announced April 20, 2017.

Now available on Netflix, the 13-episode first season of “Luke Cage” also stars Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Erik LaRay Harvey, Rosario Dawson and Alfre Woodard.
